Ram Mandir Darshan for Senior Citizens (2026): Wheelchair Facility, Rules & Travel Tips

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Short answer: Yes, Ram Mandir provides wheelchairs for elderly and divyang devotees. The wheelchair itself is provided by the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust; a trained attendant pushes it for a small convenience fee (reported at about ₹150). You register at the Trust's Tirth Yatri Seva Kendra desk near the entry with an Aadhaar card. Private wheelchairs are not allowed inside the temple complex. Go early in the morning, book a free Sugam Darshan slot in advance, and keep phones and bags in the locker before you reach the desk.

Taking parents or grandparents for Ram Lalla's darshan is a dream trip for many families — and with a little planning it can be comfortable for them too. The temple complex is large, there is walking and waiting involved, and the crowd can be heavy. This guide covers the wheelchair facility, the best time to go, how to reach the temple with the least walking, where to stay, and what to carry, so your elders can focus on darshan, not on the difficulty.

How to Get a Wheelchair at Ram Mandir: Step by Step

  1. Book the free Sugam Darshan pass for everyone in the family on online.srjbtkshetra.org, choosing an early-morning slot. Help: Sugam Darshan pass kaise banaye.
  2. Deposit phones, bags and footwear first at the free lockers — you cannot take them inside. See locker facility.
  3. Reach the Tirth Yatri Seva Kendra desk with the elder's original Aadhaar card.
  4. Register for the wheelchair; a trained attendant is assigned.
  5. One family member can usually stay with the elder through the darshan route — ask at the desk.
  6. After darshan, the attendant brings the wheelchair back to the exit point.

Tip: On weekends and festivals, wheelchairs can run out early. Reaching the desk in the first hour of darshan gives the best chance.

Best Time for Elderly Devotees to Visit Ram Mandir

  • Time of day: The first morning slot is usually the least crowded and the coolest. Check the Ram Mandir darshan timing.
  • Days: Tuesday to Thursday are generally calmer than weekends.
  • Season: October to March is most comfortable. In April–June, avoid midday completely.
  • Avoid: Deepotsav (7 November 2026), Ram Navami, New Year and long weekends, unless you are prepared for very heavy crowds. See the Deepotsav 2026 guide.

Reaching the Temple with the Least Walking

Cars are not allowed right up to the temple entry. They stop at the nearest permitted point on or near Ram Path, and on busy days further away. For elders, this last stretch matters most.

Wheelchair at Ayodhya Airport and Railway Station

  • Flight: Request wheelchair assistance when you book the ticket (or call the airline at least 48 hours before). Airlines provide it free from check-in to the aircraft and from the aircraft to the exit at Ayodhya's Maharishi Valmiki International Airport.
  • Train: While booking on IRCTC, enter the correct age so the elder gets senior citizen lower-berth preference. At the station, ask the station master's office or an enquiry counter for a wheelchair or porter, and choose a coach position close to the exit if possible.
  • From the airport or station: Our driver meets you at the exit with a car that is easy to get into — see Ayodhya airport pickup.

Planning the Trip with Elderly Parents: Before You Book

PlanWhat to do
TravelPrefer a direct flight to Ayodhya or an AC train with a lower berth (select "senior citizen" and lower berth preference on IRCTC).
StayChoose a hotel near Ram Path with a lift and ground-floor or low-floor rooms. See hotels near Ram Mandir.
PacePlan only 2–3 sites a day, with rest during the afternoon temple closure.
DurationKeep at least 2 days so nothing is rushed — see the 2 day Ayodhya itinerary.
DocumentsOriginal Aadhaar for each elder (needed for the pass and wheelchair), plus a copy of prescriptions.

What to Carry (and What Not to)

  • Carry: original Aadhaar, daily medicines (taken before entry), a small water bottle for the waiting area, comfortable clothes, a shawl in winter.
  • Leave in the locker or hotel: mobile phones, bags, electronic items, belts and footwear — these are not allowed inside.
  • Medical: If your parent has a heart, BP or sugar condition, eat something light before the queue and keep the attendant informed. Ask their doctor before a long trip.
