Saryu Aarti Time: Winter and Summer

The aarti is timed around dusk, so it moves with the seasons. Guides we read give slightly different starts, which is why we show a range rather than one minute.

In December the sun sets before 5:15 PM, so the sky is dark by the time the aarti starts. If you arrive at 6:30 PM in winter, you may have missed most of the ceremony. A morning aarti at about 5:30 AM is also reported, but it is less crowded and less covered by guides.

What Happens at Ram Ki Paidi in the Evening

Ram Ki Paidi is the main stretch of ghats on the Saryu in Ayodhya. As the light fades, priests perform the aarti with lamps and chants while devotees sit on the steps. Lamps are floated on the water, and the promenade fills with families, sadhus and photographers. It is a religious ceremony first, so keep your voice low and follow instructions from the staff.

• Before the aarti: find a step, buy a diya if you wish, and watch the light change on the river.
• During: stand or sit quietly; avoid blocking others with phones held high.
• After: walk the riverfront, have tea or sweets from the stalls, and decide on a boat ride.

Best Place to Sit for Saryu Aarti

Reach the ghat 30 to 45 minutes early and take a step near the aarti platform. If the front is full, the ghats on either side and the upper steps give a clean view with less pushing. Is There a Light or Laser Show?

Guides disagree. One local operator lists a daily laser show of about 20 minutes at 7:30 PM, but our own checks and other guides show the big laser and drone show is a festival feature, held on Deepotsav evenings. Treat any ordinary-evening show as a bonus that may or may not run. Rain can cancel it.

Boat Ride on the Saryu: Fares and Safety

Prices come from several guides and rise on weekends, Kartik Purnima and Deepotsav. They are not fixed rates, so bargain politely.

• Agree the price, route and time before you step on the boat.
• Insist on life jackets for children and older passengers.
• Do not overload the boat and do not stand while it moves.
• Avoid boating after dark or in high water.

Floating a Diya and Deep Daan

Many visitors float a small lamp after the aarti. It is a simple offering and costs very little. Buy only from the stalls near the steps, keep it small and do not leave plastic behind. This plan uses the new Ram Mandir timings that start on 1 November 2026, when darshan resumes at 1:35 PM after the afternoon rest.

Deepotsav 2026 at Ram Ki Paidi

Deepotsav is expected on the evening of Saturday, 7 November 2026, before Diwali on Sunday, 8 November. The lamps are lit at dusk, and a laser and drone show has been part of past years. The exact programme is not yet confirmed.

• Entry to the main ghat stretch can be limited to pass holders.
• Private vehicles are stopped at parking zones announced by the administration, followed by a long walk.
• Police may close approaches once the crowd reaches capacity, sometimes before the lamps are lit.
• Hotels near the river road fill up early.

How to Reach Ram Ki Paidi

Ram Ki Paidi is about 1.5 km from the Ram Mandir area according to one guide. Because of restrictions, your driver may need to drop you at a designated point and you walk the last stretch. Agree the pickup point and a return time before you separate from your cab.

• From the railway station or airport: a pre-booked cab is easiest with luggage. Book via our railway station pickup or airport taxi.
• Within the city: e-rickshaws and autos work for short hops. Confirm the fare first.
• By car: check parking in Ayodhya before you drive in.

Ayodhya Evening Tour for Families and Senior Citizens

• Choose the upper steps and keep a cushion or folded shawl for the cold stone.
• Keep children close; do not let them near the water's edge in the dark.
• Ask the driver to wait at an agreed point so that elders do not walk far.
• Carry a warm layer in winter. Evenings are cold and foggy from December.

Phones are usually fine at the ghat, unlike inside Ram Mandir, but the aarti is a ceremony, not a show. Do not stand in front of others, avoid flash, do not climb railings and keep the volume off. Ask before photographing priests or devotees up close.
